Dayan Raps Doves, Assails Abba Eban

TEL AVIV (JTA) — De-
fense Minister Moshe Dayan
delivered a blistering attack
on the doves and singled out
Foreign Minister Abba Eban
for particularly scathing
treatment at the closing
session of the Labor Party
secretariat, which had been
debating the future of the
adminintered territories.
Dayan said he was not
shocked by the concept of
"creeping annexation" ap-
plied in areas such as the
environs of Jerusalem, Nebi
Samwil, Kiryat Arba near
Hebron, Gush Etzion and the
Latrun salient, and the Kfar
Saba region.
He called for more inten-
sive settlement of these areas
both by government and pri-
vate initiative and for more
Israeli investments in the ad-
ministered territories to cre-

ate more employment and
improve the inhabitants' liv-
ing standards.
On militarily secure bord-
ers, Dayan stressed the im-
portance of Israel's radar
positions on the crests of
the hills in the West Bank
and Sinai. "I say to Eban:
do not forget the hill tops,"
he said, noting that the air
force was now the most vital
part of Israel's deterrent and
the radar posts its eyes and
ears.
In addition, Dayan said it
was Israel's duty to help
raise the living standards of
the inhabitants by providing
health, education and wel-
fare services which it gave
its own citizens. Israel must
also create employment and
industry on the West Bank
and in Gaza, he said.
During the debate, Pre-
mier Golda Meir castigated
"some of our youth and aca-
demics" who question the
moral foundations of Zionism.
She said there was no com-
parison between the Jews,

Editor, The Jewish News:
Detroit has many influen-
tial business executives,
brokers, doctors, attorneys,
manufacturers and wholesale
and retail merchants who
contribute beyond the call of
duty with personal efforts
and monies to put our town
over the top in contributions
to the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign. Bnai Brith in Detroit
and Michigan has a big part
in this success year after
year because most of the
workers in this philanthro-
pic effort are members
themselves.
If only half the effort was
given to the dire need of a
Bnai Brith building in De-
troit to house all the offices
and the much needed meet-
ing rooms for the local 26
lodges and the 25 chapters,
then for certain we will have
accomplished something.
Members would be proud
to have such a building in
Detroit where the lodges and
chapters could meet and use
the facilities for every occa-
sion necessary for philan-
thropic projects. Isn't it time
that we the members, here
in Detroit, get a little con-
sideration for ourselves?
Wouldn't a pleased and dedi-
cated membership, happy in
pleasant quarters, do more
and better their accomplish-
ments?

Editor, The Jewish News:
As an ex-first grade teach-
er, who taught "accelerated
Jewish children," I was
amazed by the 6-year-old
first graders at Hillel Day
School. For an hour and a
half, these children conduct-
ed this seder mostly in He-
brew, with the complete
participation of 30 children.
Although I have never
been a champion of parochial
schools, the right things for
Jewish children seem to be
happening here. They are
growing up with the remark-
able opportunity of knowing
a second language fluently
and using it comfortably —
and they are being given a
sense of history where the
role of the Jewish people is
presented truthfully and with
pride, and these children
will have an identity that is
strong and positive!"
