Chana Weintrobe Michlin
was born in Poland and im-

club of which both were or-

girl who spoke fluent Hebrew.
Married at • a very early
age, they completed their
education following marriage.
Michael graduated as a
teacher from City College
and Chana from high school.
M r s . Michlin started the
first Hebrew kindergarten in
the city.
Following World War I,
she organized a People's Re-
lief Organization to h e 1 p
Jewish war suffers. Together
with a friend, Mrs. Michlin
went out every Sunday to
collect money house-to-house
for war sufferers. Similar
relief groups spread through-
out the United States and be-
came an important national
organization.
At the same time, the Mich-

years and she was top fund
raiser. The Jewish National
Fund of f i c e was in their
home.
The Michlin's children,
Shulamith (Mrs. Joseph
Heit) and Leah (Mrs. Sol
Drachler), have four chil-
dren. One of them, Daniel
Drachler, is a leader in the
Habonim Youth Movement
and is in a kibutz in Israel.
Mrs. Michlin recalled that
her daughters were so im-
bued with their parents' en-
thusiasm for Jewish life and
Palestine ,that they preferred
palying "JNF office" and
"Red Magen David" office
over playing house or with
dolls.
In 1917, Mrs. Michlin or-
