The jubilee volumes are
being published under the
sponsorship of the World
Bible Society in Jerusalem.
Ben•Gurion, former prime
minister of Israel and also
known as a biblical scholar,
is president of the World
Jewish Bible Society whose
members include renowned
biblical and Judaica scholars
from all countries of the
world.
The May 12 convocation
honoring Shazar also marks
the first World Jewish Bible
Congress. In addition to the
delegates and all members
of the Knesset, all contribu-
tors to the jubilee volumes
have been invited to attend
the presentation.
At the invitation of Ben-
Gurion and Dr. Zeitlin,
selected Jewish and non-
Jewish scholars renowned in
all branches of Jewish aca-
demic life and cognate learn-
ing have written original
essays in their respective
fields for Shazar's "Fest-
schrift."
The volumes include an
article in Hebrew by Dr.
Abraham 1. Katsh, president
of Dropsie; and articles in
both Hebrew and English by
Dr. Zeitlin. In his preface to
the work, Dr. Zeitlin under-

both were students and room-
mates at the Baron David
Gunsberg Academy for Jew-
ish and Oriental Studies in
St. Petersburg (Leningrad )
in Russia, until prior to the
outbreak of World War I.
The jubilee volumes, which
highlight Shazar's career
both as president of Israel
and as an outstanding
Judaica scholar, also will
include the proceedings of
the special convocation held
by Dropsie on Nov. 1, 1970,
in the presidential residence
in Jerusalem at which he
was awarded the honorary
degree of doctor of laws.
