Everything You Wanted to Know on Pesah but Were Afraid to Ask Bnai Israel Club

Questions regarding the ob-
servance of Passover, dis-
cussed at the Vaad Passover
Institute last week, were
answered by Rabbis Leizer
Levin, Leib Bakst and Chas-
kel Grubner, the Bet Din of
the Council of Orthodox
Rabbis.
Consultants were Dr. Ar-
nold Singerman; pharmacist
Seymour Terebelo; and
chemists Norman E. Levitan
and Jerry Cohen. Moderator
was Rabbi Leonard Perl-
stein.
Among the questions were:
May any local baked goods
be used for Pesah?
There is no item from any
local bakery that may be
'Ised for Passover. Baked
sods from the two Vaad-
.supervised bakeries (Country
. Corner and Zeman's) will be
available and permissible
the morning after Passover
Wednesday, April 25. No
baked goods prepared before
sundown (8:03 p.m.) -Tues-

day, April 24, are permitted
to be eaten even after Pass-
over.
Is Hashgakha (supervision)
provided for any hotel in the
immediate area? Yes. The
Arethusa Hotel, 30 S. Gratiot,
Mt. Clemens, is under Vaad

Holiday Forces
Early Deadline

The concluding days of
Passover will be Monday
and Tuesday, April 23 and
24. Thus, there will be an
early deadline for the is-
sue of April 27. All who
wish to submit publicity
for that issue must either
hand-deliver or mail copy
to meet the deadline of
noon Friday, April 20.

Still Part of JDC

There are little pockets of
problems, some dating back
to World War II, that are
still the concern of the Joint
Distribution Committee, ma-
jor beneficiary of the United
Jewish Appeal. In China, a
small residual caseload of
somewhat over a dozen for-
mer refugees, mostly old and
ill, are cared for in Spain.
In Algeria where the Jew-
ish community dwindled
from 130,000 in 1946 to barely
1,000 today, JDC has an ac-
tive caseload of 75.
