Working through Beth Sha-
lom sisterhood, Mrs. Kraus
brought a Braille class to the
synagogue in 1964, and has
been translating mathematics
into Braille ever since.
This year there are 10
women in the Beth Shalom
group. Mrs. Charles Isackson
JJrJJJrJr is chairman.
Assignments are sent from

the Tri-County Braille Volun-
teers, who fill requests from
Happy & Healthy
individuals, students and
classes throughout the area.
Passover

Mrs. Howard Kraus, of
Woodhaven Ln., Southfield,
received a meritorious award
from the National Braille As-
sociation for translating more
than 10,000 pages into
Braille.

Former displaced persons
who arrived in the United
States between 1948 and 1950,
and who settled in the great-
er New York area either
temporarily or permanently,
are being sought by NYANA,
the New York Association
for New Americans.
Philip Soskis, NYANA ex-
ecutive director, noted that
1973 marks the 25th anni-
versary since the passage of
the Displaced Persons Act,
which enabled many Jewish
survivors of Nazism and the
concentration camps to mi-
grate to America.
NYANA is interested in
hearing about the experi-
ences of the former DPs in
MISS WENDY KIRSCH
the quarter-century since
Mr. and Mrs. Sol J. Kirsch their arrival, Soskis said.

Great Lakes Histadrut Conclave
to Mark Memorial Day Weekend

The leadership of the
Michigan Trade Union Coun-
cil for Histadrut is preparing,
for the Great Lakes Hista-
drut Conference to be held
May 25-28 at the Walter and
May Reuther Family Educa-
tion Center, Black Lake.
Representatives of labor,
the academic community and
young leadership from the
Labor Zionist movement will
participate in the Memorial
Day weekend.
The American Trade Union
Council for Histadrut, which
is jointly sponsoring this
event with its local affiliate,
will provide speakers on
social problems from Ameri-
can and Israeli viewpoints.
This approach will give new
insights into the respective
positions of the American
and Israeli labor movements.
The problem of achieving
peace in the Middle East
will be dealt with by an
emissary from Israel.
The program schedule also
includes time for recrea-
tional activities such as
swimming, golfing, fishing,
film programs and informal
social gatherings. There will
be special events for teen-
agers and a sightseeing trip
to Mackinac Island. Dis-
counts are available for
groups.
