Brandt to Visit Israel in June

spokesman
Government
Ruediger Von Wechman told
a news conference that no
itinerary or agenda has been
established yet.
He said the visit should be
viewed in the context of
Bonn's "balanced Middle
East policy."
The chancellor will be ac-
companied by his wife on
his visit to Israel.
Brandt was invited by
Premier Golda Meir last
year. He last visited Israel
in 1960 when he was the
mayor of West Berlin.
The foreign ministry an-
nounced that Foreign Minis-

nounced simultaneously in
Jerusalem.

Rabbi Kahane Fights
'Jews for Jesus' With
'Christians for Moses'

JERUSALEM (ZINS)
Rabbi Meir Kahane announc-
ed this week that his Jewish
Defense League has estab-
lished "a movement of 'Chris.
tian for Moses" which will
henceforth engage in mis-
sionary activity to offset the
"Jews for Jesus" movement.

"The intention," said Ka-
hane, "is to win Christians
over to Judaism." At a press
conference, Rabbi Kahane
presented three American
Christians who stated that
they have joined as "Chris-
tians for Moses," and that
they will soon begin a vigor-
ous campaign to find converts
to the Jewish faith.
According to Kahane, this
is likely to develop conflicts
between Jews and Christians,
and "it may be expected that
Abba Eban will find it neces-
sary to discourage all mis-
sionary activity in the Holy
Land."
Rabbi Kahane also empha-
sized that he supports the
militant tactics of those who
are battling Christian mis-
sionary activities in Israel.

BASIC RECOMMENDATIONS: The study concluded
that the financial remunerations offered to Jewish educators
must be increased to make the profession attractive to able
and talented young people.
The study recommended that Jewish communities en-
hance the status of the Jewish school teacher by providing
adequate salary compensation as well as a full range of
substantial welfare benefits.
Local federations and welfare funds are urged to con-
sider specific allocations that would encourage schools to
raise the status and improve the standards of their person-
nel. In addition, the study called for increased subsidies for
Jewish education.
Pointing to the growing gap between full time compen-
sation in Jewish schools and public education, Isaac Toubin,
executive vice president of AAJE, warned that unless
decent career conditions are created in Jewish education, the
number of young people taking a variety of credit-bearing
courses in Jewish studies is now larger than ever before,
the number of teachers in training diminishes in all Hebrew
teacher training schools. Toubin attributes it to the present
lack of career opportunity in Jewish education.
