daily Ma'ariv reports that
some of these Jewish Toyota
dealers told the leadership of
the United Jewish Appeal
that if Jewish organizations
continue to picket t h e i r
premises, they would retali-
ate by withholding contribu-
tions to the United Appeal.

According to the newspaper
account, instead of rejecting
this argument, the fund rais-
ing officials allegedly made
overtures to Israeli officials
requesting that they use their
influence to quiet the action
of Jewish . organizations in
connection with the Toyota
picketing.

In an editorial, the . paper
writes that this was a mis-
take, because the Arab eco-
nomic war against Israel is
basically a psychological one.
If the pressure on Toyota is
eased merely for the sake of
a few additional contribu-
tions to the United Appeal,
it will only encourage other
Japanese firms to cooperate
with the Arabs.
According to Ma'ariv it is
important that Toyota feel
the pressure of the resistance
of the American market,
which bought over 350,000
Toyota cars in 1972, yield-
ing revenues greater than
with the Arab countries.

Katchalski Victory Believed Assured

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Labor Party leaders claim
that Prof. Ephraim Katchal-
ski has enough support in
the Knesset to win him the
presidency when the election
takes place Tuesday.
While some nervousness
has been expressed in Labor
Party quarters over the
emergence of Prof. Ephraim
Uhrbach as the candidate of
Gahal and the National Re-
ligious Party, Katchalski's
backers appeared to have al-
ready done their lobbying
well enough to assure him
majority support in the
Knesset election.

further activity on his behalf.
The Uhrbach candidacy
emerged as more than a
mere symbolic threat last
week after Premier Golda
Meir vetoed an attempt by
Labor Party leaders to reach
an arrangement with the
smaller Knesset factions.
Under the proposed deal,
the small factions were to
vote for Katchalski. In re-
turn, the Labor Party would
drop its electoral reform

The all-day conference will
be held Wednesday in the
auditorium of Dropsie Uni-
versity, and will be open to
the general public.
