Stanley Gerard Killed in Mishap Stanley E. Gerard, national sales director of Mohawk Liquor Corp., died March 15 while on a skiing vacation in Vermont. He was 45. Mr. Gerard, 6654 Knoll- wood Cir., West Bloomfield, was a native of New York. He held the Mohawk position for the past 17 years. He was a member of the Na- tional Ski Patrol and the Birmingham Tennis Club. Surviving are his wife, Sue Ann; a son, Michael; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wil- liam Gerard of New York; and a brother, Milton of Mohokus, N. Mr. Shapiro was one of the founders of the Jewish Folk Schools of the Labor Zionist movement more than 60 years ago and was instru- mental in introducing many programatic changes and progressive features into the Jewish educational system in this country. For more than a half-cen- tury, he himself taught and was the principal in Jewish Folk Schools in New York, \ Syracuse, Milwaukee and Phil- delphia. Mr. Shapiro was a founder and editor of "Kinderwelt" (Children's World), a month- ly magazine in Yiddish and Hebrew for children which appeared in the 1920s and 1930s. George Klein, Owner of Jazz Nightclub George Klein; owner and operator of Klein's Showbar, 8540 12th, for 23 years, died March '17 at age 78. His nightclub hosted many fledgling jazz musicians on their way up. . Mr. Klein, 14811 Lincoln, Oak Park, lived most of his life in Detroit. She re- sided at 22300 Lucerne, South- field. Funeral services were held Thursday at Kaufman Chapel. Joseph Robinove, Longtime Teacher in Hamtramck Joseph J. Robinove, a biology teacher at Ham- tramck High School for 30 years, died Monday at age 77. Mr. Robinove, 15154 Pied- mont, was a native of Russia and lived in the U. S. since 1912. He was the first en- listed man from Battle Creek High School to serve in World War I, and he did duty in Italy. After receiving a bache- lors degree from. Western Michigan University and masters degree from the University of Michigan, he taught at Hamtramck High from 1926 to 1956. He author- ed research articles in bi- ology. A founder of the Ham- tramck Teachers Credit Union, Mr. Rbbinove was ad- jutant for many years of the Bushway American Legion post. He taught in the Temple Beth El religious school and was a member of the con- gregation. A student of Jew- ish history and literature, Mr. Robinove also was a linguist and craftsman. Surviving are his wife, the former Muriel Netzorg; a son, Charles of Fairfax, Va.; three brothers, Israel, Boris and Zalmen, all of Israel; and a sister, Helen of New York.
