outraged by the activities of
this group of criminals who
attempt to legitimatize their
international criminal activi-
ties by wearing the cloak of
nationalism."
Cooper said "Terror will
not solve the problems of the
Middle East. If the Arab
states truly want to solve
problems and bring peace to
the Middle East they should
join Israel at the negotiating
table for serious peace talks."
Cooper's resolution "calls
upon the United States, the
United Nations, and the in-
ternational community to
urge and support the imme-
diate opening of negotiations
without a priori conditions,
between Israel and the Arab
states, and that they lend
any support needed to make
such discussions successful.
It is time that terror be re-
placed by sincere peace

C e Guevara' Killed in Clash

i

TEL AVIV '(JTA) — Th e
Arab terrorist known as "Ch e
Guevara," whose activity re
cently has resulted in a num
ber of murders of Ara b
notables and in the resump
tion of terrorist activitie s
against Israeli forces in th e
Gaza Strip, was killed las t
Friday morning in a clas h
with an Israeli army unit a t
his hiding place.
With him were two othe r
terrorist commanders w h o
also were killed. There wen e
no casualties to the Israelis
officials said.
Following a hand grenad e

throwing Thursday at an Is
raeli army truck which re
suited in the death of an
Israeli soldier and injuries
to another Israeli, army units
conducted searches in some
Gaza suburbs.

Two hand grenades were
found in the Rimal quarter.
Later a subterranean bunker
was discovered at the home
of a local physician, Dr. Ra-
shad Mousmar. Three Popu-
lar Front for the Liberation
of Palestine commanders
were hiding in the bunker.
One of them was "Che Gue-
vara," so called because he
modeled his activities after
those of the Cuban guerrilla
leader.
- The terrorists opened fire
at the approaching Israelis.
The fire was returned and
the three terrorists were
killed. Arms and ammunition
as well as propaganda mate-
rial Were found in the bunker.
Dr. Mousmar had been
previously convicted for aid-
ing terrorists and sentenced
to five years' imprisonment.
He was released, however,
after two years on condition_
that he would remain in his
medical profession and have
no connections with terror-
ists. He was detained when
the bunker was found in his
home.

grounds that it was only
leased by Mousmar.
The notables claimed the
building was actually owned
by a local Arab, Abdel Ka-
rim el Saurani, who, they
said, is now an American
citizen working in Rangoon,
Burma, under contract to the
United Nations. Israeli au-
thorities "-- s a i d Mousmar's
ownership was established.
In any event, Israeli offi-
cials noted that the demolition
of premises used to shelter
terrorists was sanctioned not
only by Israeli law but by
the Egyptian law introduced
into the Gaza Strip in 1948
and by the laws of the British
mandatory regime in Pales-
tine before that.
Israeli sappers destroyed
the building in stages, using
small explosive charges. The
operation took two hours.
Care was taken not to dam-
age adjacent buildings.

TEL AVIV (JTA)—A mil-
itary court in Kuneitra im-
posed mild sentences Tues-
day on six Druze villagers
from Majdal Shams in the
Golan Heights who were
charged with failure to in-
form Israeli authorities of
existence of a Syrian spy
ring in their village.
The accused, who had or-
iginally pleaded not guilty,
changed their pleas to guilty.
One received a three-year
suspended sentence and will

of them non-Jews, were
charged with conspiracy to

—Max M. Fisher of Detroit,
chairman of the Jewish
Agency's board of governors,
made a two-pronged appeal
Sunday for increased Amer-
ican Jewish support of gen-
eral education in Israel and
Jewish education in the
United States.
Addressing a meeting of
the Zionist Organization of
America's Cleveland Region
at the Park Synagogue here,
Fisher said American Jews
must assist Israel in mak-

Arab-Jewish spy ring, and
Tousiya Cohen, lawyer for
Ehud Adiv, head of the ring's
Jewish section, did not deny
that their clients visited
Syria, trained in the use of
arms and explosives a n d
explosives and passed infor-
mation to enemy agents.
But they claimed that they
were motivated by a political
ideology that wanted to bring
about political revolutions in
Israel and other Middle East-
ern countries.
The attorneys argued that
the defendants passed on in-
formation that was known to
every soldier and civilian in
Israel and therefore could
not be considered classified.

Jew," he said, "then we have
no right to say we are con-
cerned about Jewish sur-
vival."
At the ZOA meeting, Fisher

received the Cleveland Re-
gion's Rabbi Abba Hillel Sil-
ver Award in recognition of
his "friendship and concern
for the welfare and security
of the state of Israel." Pre-
vious recipients of the award,
a glass etching of the late
American Zionist leader, are
Sen. Robert Taft, Jr., of Ohio
(1971) and House Minority
Leader Gerald R. Ford
(1972). The presentation was
made by Conrad J. Morgen-
stern, president of the ZOA
Region.
Herman L. Weisman, pres-
ident of the ZOA, who ad-
dressed the meeting, said
Fisher "has proven himself
as a great force for the com-
mitment of American Jewry
to aid the people of Israel,
especially in the fields of
absorption of new immigrants
