Henrietta Rosenthal never
became a judge, but her in-
valuable contributions to the
judiciary recently earned
the tributes of many admir-
ers, including Detroit's
mayor, Common Council and
members of the legal profes-
sion.
It was the occasion of Miss
Rosenthal's retirement as ju-
dicial assistant to the Record-
ers' Court judge.s after 27
years of service.
Miss Rosenthal, who lives
on Jefferson Ave., is highly
regarded for her expertise
on the law. During her ca-
reer, she acted as legal ad-
viser to the entire court, in
many cases ghost-writing
judges' opinions and defend-
ing them in law suits. She
also wrote up legislation of
interest to the court and
studied proposed legislation
with a view to its effect on
the court.
A 1918 graduate of the Uni-
versity of Michigan's law
school, Miss Rosenthal be-
gan her law career in a part-
nership with her brothers
Ben and Francis, both now
deceased.
An automobile accident
three years ago took Ben's
life and left Miss Rosenthal
with crippled hands and foot.
The injuries made it difficult
for her to get to court, and
so she decided to retire at
the end of last year.
