Morris Karbal Tributes Marked
at Services in Shaarey Zedek

Cong. Shaarey Zedek's
sanctuary was' filled to
capacity late Sunday after-
noon in final tribute to
Morris Karbal, a vice presi-
dent of the synagogue, who
died Saturday in Sinai Hos-
pital after a prolonged ill-
ness. He was 70.

Mr. Karbal, 25230 South-
field, Southfield, held many
communal honors, including
the Man of the Year Award
from the Council of Orthodox
Rabbis, the Distinguished
Service Award of the Detroit
Friends of Yeshiva Univer-
sity and the National Award
for Communal Service from
the Jewish Theological Sem-
inary. He was a member of
the board of overseers of the
seminary.
Mr. Karbal was a board
member of the Jewish Home
for Aged and of the North
Detroit General Hospital.
Surviving are his wife,
Hanna h; two brothers,
Simon and Joseph; and three
sisters, Mrs. Isadore (Betty)
Kaplan, Mrs. Abraham (Ida)
Chinn and Mrs. Philip J.
(Sadie) Forman.

NEW YORK - Dr. Otto
Leichter, a journalist at the
United Nations for 16 years
and a leader in the Austrian
Social Democratic party be-
fore World War II died Feb.
15. He was 75.
Before 1934 Dr. Leichter
was prominent in the Social
Democratic party and edited
the party journal. When the
party was suppressed, he be-
came active in the under-
ground and wrote a book
about those years, "Between
Two Dictatorships."
He became the head of the
German Press Agency office
at the UN in 1957 and re-
ceived decorations from the
Austrian and Bonn govern-
ments.
