BERLIN—A human skele-
ton recently unearthed in
West Berlin was definitely
that of Martin Bormann, ac-
cording to the director of the
Institute of Forensic Medi-
cine here.
Dr. Heinz Spengler said at
the conclusion of a month's
study of the skeleton that he
based his opinion on compari-
sons of the skull with photos
of Bormann, discovery of a
mended collar bone break,
such as one Bormann had
suffered, measurements of
the skeleton and correspond-
ence of the skull's dentures
with a sketch of Bormann's
teeth made by his dentist.
Dr. Spengler said that an-
other skeleton found at the
same time was that of Hit-
ler's personal physician, Dr.
Ludwig Stumpfegger. Both
Borman and Stumpfegger
disappeared on May 2, 1945,
after they fled from Hitler's
bunker and attempted to get
through Russian lines.
Frankfurt District Attor-
ney Joachim Richter, who is
in personal charge of a Bor-
mann inquest in West Ger-
many, said that glass splint-
ers found in the teeth of the
skeletons indicated suicide by
cyanide poisoning.
The skeletons accidentally
were found by a crew dig-
ging a cable trench along
a commuter line in West Ber-
lin in December.
