A Temple Beth El advertisement announcing that the
structure on Woodward and Gladstone is now up for sale
was a direct indication that Detroit's oldest Jewish house
of worship is preparing to move into its new quarters now
being constructed on 14 Mile Rd. and Telegraph, in West
Bloomfield. While the sanctuary may not be available for
occupancy for a year, it is definitely planned that the
school and social hall will be ready for use in the fall.
Meanwhile the structure is rising, as this partial photo

indicates.

Irving I. Katz, executive secretary of Temple Beth El,
said that the new building's school and office portions will
be ready for occupancy in June, and the sanctuary will be

ready for Hanuka.

In the new building, Katz said, the facilities will in-
clude a sanctuary seating 1,800, a chapel for 250, a social
hall with a capacity for 600, 34 classrooms for kinder-
garten through high school classes and a nursery.

The academic program will
be supervised by the Jeru-
salem school of the HUC-JIR
under the direction of Dr.
Ezra Spicehandler, dean.
The credit course begins
in June with the first sum-
mer months spent working
at the kibutz and studying
Hebrew using the ulpan
method. Days have been
scheduled for touring and
field trips.
There are 30 places avail-
able. For information, write
Rabbi Stephen Schaefer,
youth division, UAHC, 838
Fifth Ave., New York 10021.
