Jack Callie, former De-
troiter who owned Jack Cal-
lie Bar and Restaurant in
Los Angeles, died Feb. 2 at
age 56.
Mr. °Mlle, a native Det-
roiter, left this city 20 years
ago. While in Detroit, he
owned a bar on Fort St. He
was a World War II army
veteran in the Pacific Thea-
ter and was decorated for
bravery.
Survivors are his wife,
Eleanor; a son, Michael; two
daughters, Mrs. Kenyon
(Iris) Brown and Mrs. Bar-
ry (Suzy) Silverman; a broth-
er, Hal; two sisters, Mrs.
(Lou ( Elea nor ) Gordon of
Mount Clemens and Mrs. Hal
(Dorothy) Miller; and one
grandchild. Interment Los
Angeles.

Dr. Herbert Birch,
Pediatrics Expert

NEW YORK - Dr. Her-
bert G. Birch, professor of
pediatrics at Albert Ein-
stein College of Medicine,
died Sunday at age 54. Dr.
Birch was recipient of the
1971 Kennedy International
Award for studies of the
relation of malnutrition and
other social problems to
mental retardation.
Internationally known for
his research in child develop-
ment and brain Injury, Dr.
Birch also was professor of
psychology at the Ferkauf
Graduate School of Yeshiva
University.

Irene Meyer, a well-known
Michigan artist who had ex-
hibited her work at many
area shows, died Tuesday at
age 60.
Mrs. Meyer, who had been
ailing for some time, was
honored with a restrospective
showing of her work at the
annual Sholem Aleichem art
show last weekend.
Born in Czechoslovakia,
Mrs. Meyer lived in the De-
troit area for the past 46
years. She worked in the
media of ceramics, metal
work, jewelry and sculpture.

neapolis. lie was a member
of
Morgenthau Lodge of
Bnai Brith.
Surviving are his wife,
