Mizrachi Passover Moos Hitim Drive
Marks 20- Year Israel Relief Project

Renewing
its Passover
Movos Hitim
appeal,
in
preparation for efforts to
continue the relief project in
Israel, the Detroit Mizrachi-
Hapoel Ha mizrachi leaders
stated that increased needs
add to the importance of
this year's appeal.
Explaining the earlier ef-
fort for the Passover relief
appeal, Zvi Tomkiewicz, ex-
ecutive director of the local
Mizrachi movement, pointed
out that there is a marked
increase in the number of
families to be assisted with
traditional Passover foods
and that it is urgent that
there be many more and
larger contributions towards
the Mo'os Hitim fund for Is-

rael through Mizrachi.
"This year marks the 20th
anniversary of our sponsor-
ship of this Mo'os Hitim fund
for Israel's needy," Tomkie-
wicz said. "We have assisted
many thousands with our as-
signments for foods to be
secured from Israel's super-
markets. Our task is in ac-
cordance with tradition and
it fills a great need."
Tomkiewicz said that the
increased number of Russian
and other settlers in Israel
who arrive penniless has pro-
vided a vast load of re-
cipients of assistance from
Mizrachi.
"The time for action is ur-
gent,"
Tomkiewicz said,
"and we hope the response

will he as generous as in the
past and from more people,
and as prompt as the arising
needs demand."
Tomkiewicz pointed out
that for the first 17 years of
Mizrachi's efforts the Mo'os
Haim assistance was in co-
operation with CARE.
Changing conditions enabled
Mizrachi to deal directly
with Israeli supermarkets to
provide relief for many fami-
lies and to assure operation
of the tasks with American
dollars exchanged in Israel

for needed foods.

Contributions towards the
Mizrachi Mo'os Hitim fund
should be made to Mizrachi,

The Central Conference of
American Rabbis partici-
pated in a convention ex•
ploring the lifestyles of Jew-
ish college students and how
the rabbinate can relate to
them.
Held in Ann Arbor, Jan.
17-18, the meeting attracted
more than 30 rabbis from the
700 Reform congregations in
this country.
Rabbi Stanley Davids of
Sinai Temple, Springfield.
Mass., who heads the CCAR
youth committee, said that
the function of the confer-
ence is to "raise the con-
sciousness of rabbis regard-
ing college youth."
To facilitate this goal,
Rabbis Gerald Goldman and
Joel Poupko of the Univer-
sity of Michigan Hillel Foun-
dation contacted more than
a dozen Jewish students to
act as spokesmen for various
campus organizations. They
represented the Gay Libera-
tion movement, students for
Soviet Jewry, those active in
promoting Jewish studies
within the university, com•
munal living, Krishna Con-
sciousness, Hatha Yoga and
others.
The conference began with

Arnold Wolf, Jewish chap-
lain at Yale University, on
