Council Is Named to Assist Vaad

Council and Council of Ortho-
dox Rabbis (Vaad Hara-
bonim) have announced the
creation of a local Kashrut
Advisory Council for Metro-

of the advisory council.
Rabbi Levin and Sidlow
noted that "To a great de-
gree, the Detroit area Jewish
ccrnmunity has been spared
the unseemly and undignified
controversy and competitive-
ness which has sometimes
been associated with the su-
pervision of kashrut else-
where.
"Traditionally, the Com-
munity Council has looked to
the Council of Orthodox
Rabbis for guidance on hala-
!chic matters, and the Com-
munity Council has recently
reaffirmed its intention to
recognize the authority of the

Vaad in halakhic matters and
procedures related to kash-

Formation of the Kashrut
Advisory Council "represents
an important new step in in-
suring that the integrity of

consumer confidence are
maintained and continued,"
they said.

in establishing membership
of the advisory council. They
