Campaign Divisions Mobilize for Big Thrust

More than a dozen meet-
ings have been set next week
as preparations for the for-
mal opening of the 1973 Allied
Jewish Campaign - Israel
Emergency Fund pick up
momentum.

named chairman of the pro-
fessional division of the
Allied Jewish Campaig n-
Israel Emergency Fund.

Holding a check representative of early gifts donated to the 1973 Allied Jewish
Campaign-Israel Emergency Fund are leaders of organizations that pledged to increase
last year's donations by 25 per cent or more. The pledges were made at a meeting of
the treasury gifts section of the metropolitan division Jan. 14. Norman Wachler, chair-
man of the AJC-IEF mercantile division, spoke at the meeting in the Jewish Center.
The increases were in honor of Israel's 25th anniversary.

Leukemia. Treatment From Cell 'Harvest'

A revolutionary technique
for "harvesting" the white
cells from human blood for
transfusion to leukemic pa-
tients is now being employed
by the Michigan Community
Blood Center, in
i collabora-
tion with the Children's
Leukemia Foundation and
Children's Hospital of Michi-
gan.

The process, known as con-
tinuous flow leukopheresis,
takes about 21/2 hours to
complete and there are no
ill effects. It is performed

turning to their last year's
campaign positions. Dr. Gold-
rath is a member of the De-
troit Service Group and a
director of the United He-
brew Schools and Jewish
Family and Children's Serv-
ice. Katz, president of the
United Hebrew Schools, is a
member of the board of gov-
ernors of the Jewish Welfare
Federation. He also serves
as a board member of Re-
settlement Service.

appointed associate chairmen of the health and welfare
budget and planning division of the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration by president Mandell L. Berman. Both will assist
chairman Arnold Faudman in direction of the division's
continuing work as it studies and makes recommendations
for services and allocations to the 11 local health and wel-
fare agencies and those national and overseas agencies
which are Ailed Jewish Campaign-Israel Emergency Fund

United Jewish Charities OKs
Support to College Programs

The United Jewish Char-
ities board of directors has
approved continued support
to the program of weekend
college retreats at Camp
Tamarack, administered by
the Jewish Center.

Funding also was author-
ized for three special projects
conducted by the Hillel gov-
erning board of the Univer-
sity of Michigan.

Judge Baum Asks
Campaign Gifts Ban

Wayne County Circuit
Cowl. Judge Victor J. Baum
circulated a 19-page position
paper to all 168 members of
the State Bar's Representa-
tive Assembly in the hope of
drafting a rule forbidding
lawyers to contribute money
to the election campaign of
judges.
Judge Baum, who is con-
tinuing a battle to rid Michi-
gan courts of corruption,
said this widespread practice
undermines public confidence
in the quality of justice
available in the courts.
