RABBI Y. WEINBERG

During the past year, close
to 1,000 newly-arrived immi-
grant children from Soviet
Georgia and Bukhara were

absorbed in the Chinuch
Atzmai schools. For the
present year, five new kin-
dergartens were established
and three new schools open-
ed to provide classroom
space for new arrivals.
Chinuch Atzmai is main-
taining regional schools to
which children are bused
daily from smaller communi-
ties where no Torah schools
exist.
The operational budget for
the current year including
government subsidies, is ap-
proximately IL
28,000,000
(57,000,000), dependent on the
influx and absorption of im-
migrants to Israel.
To meet this challenge, the
American Jewish community
is conducting a campaign to
provide funds for the neces-
sary school buildings ark
specially trained
teachers.
