Soviet Sisters Seek Uncle Here

Women on the Ball for AJCampaign

The second meeting in the
women's pre-campaign fund-
raising activities of the AJC-
IEF increased to $729,810 the
amount raised so far to
benefit Jews arroughout the
world and to maintain the
local services of Federation
agencies.
Mrs. N. Brewster Broder,
chairman of pre-campaign,
said this total is nearly
$75,000 more than was raised
at comparable meetings by
Detroit area women for the
1972 drive.
The meeting, a luncheon
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Levy, who has been direc-

tor of operations for United
IIIAS Service and for Joint
Distribution Committee, re-
called various Jewish immi-
grations in the 10th Century.
His work with displaced
Jews enabled him to tell
those at the Frankel home
of first-hand experience with
previous emigrations from
Bulgaria and Egypt and the
present current tide of Im-
migration to Israel from the
Soviet Union.
Levy asked those present
to "remember their history,"
which retells time and again
the story of Jews "in the
pipeline from one country to
another. Those who emerge

from the pipeline into Israel
today require training, fi-
nancial backing, housing and
clothing and so many other
forms of help until they can

be absorbed into their new
homeland," he said. "It is
through our response to the

AJC-IEF that these immi-
grants are rescued by the
Jewish Agency and the Joint
Distribution Committee."

Assisting Mrs. Broder with
the meeting were Mesdames
Paul Borman, William L.
Deutsch, David Randleman,
Melvin Kolbert, David Pol-
lack, Arthur H. Rice, Nor-
man Rosenfeld, Samuel Schiff
and Alfred Taubman.

fare Federation: Mrs. Merle
