GoIda Wants More Jewish Labor

RAMAT CAN—"A country

which we do not build cannot
be ours," Prime Minister

Golda Meir said at a session

sponsored by the Bar-Ilan
Student s' Representative
Council and heads of the uni-
versity on the Bar-Ilan cam-
pus here.

Mrs. Meir expressed her
ci ncern about the large num-
ber of Arabs from the terri-
tories employed in Israel.
"We should be very wary of
returning to an abnormal
employment pyramid in
which Jews are white-collar
intellectuals and others do

the menial jobs, If not for
the pre-state struggle for
Jewish labor I doubt that
this state would ever have
been founded," she said.

When an Arab student
complained of discrimination
against Arabs seeking gov-
ernment jobs. Mrs. Meir
said that they should under-
stand what had led to this,
"and how much suffering we
have had in this country."

As part of a nation which
was still "fighting for its
physical survival" Israel
may betray sensitivities
which in some of their ex-
pressions may be unjust,
"but this would one day dis-
appear," she said.

Havura Established

MINNEAPOLIS (JTA) —
Eight students of Macalester

started a havura, which they
have named "Or Iladash"—
the New Light—to provide
a Jewish - environment for
living, worship and study,
and it has become an im-
portant center for the 100
other Jewish students at
Macalester and the Twin
Cities Jewish community.
