Mrs. Joseph M. Welt, a
past local, national and inter-
national president of the Na-
tional Council of Jewish
Women, also has served lo-
cally as president of the Vis-
iting Nurse Association, the
Detroit Council on Commun-
ity Nursing, Neighborhood
Service Organization and the
League of Jewish Women's
Organizations, of which she
is president.
Mrs. Gerard R. Slattery,
the other recipient of this
honor, is chairman of the
board of Children's Hospital
of Michigan. For 16 years she
was its president.
Mrs. Slattery spearheaded
the fund-raising program for
$28,000,000 to make the new
hospital possible. She repre-
sents Children's as vice pres-
ident of the Detroit Medical
Center Corporation.
The meeting will feature
as guest speaker Mary Hal-
laren, executive director of
WICS, (Women in Commun-
ity Service), whose subject
will be "Tomorrow's Chil-
dren." WICS is the joint

The new Mrs. Axelrad is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Willard Freehling of Win-
netka, Ill., and the bride-
groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Paul G. Axelrad of
Kenosha Ave., Oak Park.
The bride wore a gown of
peau de soie with a lace yoke
and lantern sleeves. The
Empire bodice was accented
by scattered lace motifs, and
the soft A-line skirt had a
full chapel train. She wore a
waist - length mantilla of
matching beaded lace and
carried lillies of the valley
and white roses.
Maid of honor was Patricia
Ann Freehling of Winnetka,
the bride's sister. Brides-
maids were Mrs. Louis
Rochkind of Ann Arbor and
Mrs. Ronald Strote of Chi-
cago.
Best man was Milton
Harris Jr. of State College,
Pa. Ushers were Martin
Jaffee and Stanley Schumer
both of Detroit , and Michael
