A gift of a Torah scroll from Cong. Beth Abraham-
IfiIlel to Kehillat Sinai Synagogue of Tel Aviv was pre-
sented recently by a delegation from Beth Abraham•
Hillel, led by its cantor, Shabtai Ackerman. Shown at

tor Ackerman. The cantor, who learned of the syna-
gogue's need for a Torah scroll through the Cantors'
Assembly of America, said the congregation is comprised
primarily of Americans now living in Tel Aviv. They still
have a need for prayerbooks, half in English and half in
Hebrew, he said. Anyone who would like to contribute
Sidorim may contact Cantor Ackerman (851-6880), who
will forward them.
Young Israel Gets Zoning Board
Approval to Build in Smithfield
Young Israel of Southfield,
which has held services for
the past year in Stevenson
School. recently was granted
approval by the Southfield
Zoning Board of Appeals to
build a synagogue on resi-
dential
property at 27705

The 60x90.foot building will
he designed by Dubuque and
Radio, I,athrup Village archi-
tects. Facilities will include
youth recreation areas and a
kosher kitchen.

rector decided on a budget of
IL 87,000,000 ($22,000,000)
for next year.
The money comes from
sources in Israel and abroad.
A sum of $10,000,000 is ex-
pected from sources around

the world, with contributions
coming from 47 countries, he
said. An income of IL 20,-
(00,000 (55,000,000) is fore-
cast from Israeli sources. The
money will be used for de-
veloping the land, which in-
cludes the settlements and
the forests in Israel.

unless "it hears the black
label eagle," the emblem of
the United Farm Workers
Union of Cesar Chavez.
In an action memorandum
to Reform rabbis and lay-
men, the social action com-
mission of Reform Judaism
also urged that the syna-
gogues make certain that
their caterers "do not use
non-UFW iceberg lettuce"
and that this policy be made
known to local grocery
chains and stores, restau-
rants and any community
institutions using food for
private or public functions.
