was struck by the offhand!
way an attendant tossed a I

Offensive TV Ad
Removed From Use

SAN FRANCISCO-A seg-
ment of a television commer-
cial declaring "there is no
h a c k i n' nor hewin' nor
Jewin' at Spartan Dodge"
has been removed from the
air following intervention by
the American Jewish Con-
gress.
The offensive statement
was aired on a San Jose,
Calif., station, along with
others sent by participants
in the sponsor's contest to
select a permanent slogan
for the "San Jose Spartan
Theater,"
When executives at Spar-
tan Dodge refused to delete
the statement, the American
Jewish Congress contacted
the station and-in accord-
ance with Federal Commu•
nications Commission regu•
lations - asked to monitor
the tape to determine what
further action would be nec-
essary.
The segment was removed
from the commercial, and
the host of the program
made a public apology.

whined that his wife was
sick, his daughter didn't have
a dress for graduation, he
himself was suffering from
arthritis a n d rheumatism,
and the whole family was
facing eviction from its tene-

he talked he was fiddling
with a silver dollar in his
hand . . . "Why don't you
buy something with that dol-
