Women Appeal to Mrs Malik -
as 'Mother and Wife'
NEW YORK (JTA)—The
presidents of 13 national
Jewish women's organiza-
tions, in connection with the
nationwide Women's Plea for
Soviet Jewish Prisoners of
Conscience, wrote a letter to
Mrs. Jacob Malik, wife-of the
Soviet ambassador to the
United Nations.
They asked her to "use
your offices and whatever
opportunities you may have
to raise the issue of amnesty"
for the Jewish prisoners.
Their letter to Mrs. Malik
stated, in part: "As women
and mothers we approach you
out of our deep anxiety for
the wellbeing and safety of
some of our brothers and
sisters who live in your corn-
try. Our concerns are human
ones, having nothing to do
with politics . . We are
coming to you because as a
woman, mother and wife like
ourselves, you may perhaps

JERUSALEM (JTA) —Is-

4,810,000 in 1990, the Central
Bureau of Statistics reported,
This is based on the assump-

new immigrants will come
yearly.
If new immigrants were to
total 70,000 each year, the
population would be 5,795,000.
If 25,000 Jewish immigrants
arrive each year, the Arabs
will be 19.5 per cent of the
population in 1990, or one in
five of the populace.
