FIBA has done this sort of thing for other coun- tries and is inclined to aid in a matter of this nature, so don't be surprised if Jerusa- lem Hapoel suddenly be- comes an entity in the Na- tional loop. The Basketball Federation is endeavoring to rectify its untenable position by institut- ing a new rule effective next season whereby all Ameri- can basketball players must put in a year of residence be- fore they become eligible to participate in league play. It's extremely unlikely that many of the clubs in the Na- tional circuit will underwrite the expenses of ineligible players for a full year. Like- wise a few "basketball jocks" from the States will be an- xious to sit out a full year before being permitted to perform. Frankly the future success of Israel's basketball pro- gram may depend upon a strict interpretation of this new resolution. Israel's junior players now moving up into the varsity bracket are many and qualified. It would be a shame to thwart in the United States.
