Wonders in
New Book

Interested in the Taj Mahal
in Milwaukee? Maybe the

Sheldon S. Brown, of Gard-
ner St., Oak Park, uses 400
photos and extensive text in
the 384 pages of his newly
released book, "Remade in
America," to describe in de-
tail America's realistic re-
productions of the famous
and not so well-known land-
marks in more than 30 coun-
tries. His presentation is ele-
gantly bound and the size
of an art book.

The local writer-photog-
rapher (his works have ap-
peared in national magazines
for more than 12 years) said
he feels his book appeals
especially to students of
America's heritage, lovers of
nostalgia, travelers — active
and armchair — students of
U. S.-world architecture, his-
tory devotees, photography
addicts, connoisseurs of pain-
staking landscape design and
anyone seeking to under-
stand foreign cultures.

Institute on Jewish

Communities Set
by AJCommittee

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (JTA)
—A new institute devoted to
the study and reporting of
Jewish communities around
the world soon will begin op-
eration under the aegis of the
American Jewish Committee.
The announcement w a
made by Bertram H. Gold,
executive vice president, at
the closing session of the an-
nual meeting of the top pol-
icy-moking national executive
council.
The Morris and Adele Ber-
green Institute for Foreign
Studies and Publications will
conduct a program of re-
search, publications, a n d
seminars and serve as a ga-
thering point where scholars
and professionals can work
together to establish a long-
range planning center in
world Jewish affairs, Gold
said.

The instiute has been es-
tablished under a grant from
Mr. and Mrs. Bergreen, New
York corporate attorneys ac-
tively involved in leadership
of the AJCommltlee for
many years.
The first project of the Ber-
green Institute, which will be
administered by the AJC for-
eign affairs department, un-
der the direction of Dr. Sey-
mour P. Lachman, will be
the publication of a new quar-
terly magazine dealing with
Jewish interests abroad, Gold
stated.
The B e r g r e e n Institute
plans to initiate socio-econom-
ic studies of the Jewish com-
munities in Mexico, Central
America and South America.
