Israel's President Zalman Shazar, (left) looks at the
duplicate of a tallit he will receive as a gift from the
Wilkes-Barre Jewish Community Center and thanks Sey-
mour Hefter, educational director of the JCC, who was
In Israel for a JWB-sponsored seminar on Jewish pro-
gram materials. The 100th tallit to be woven by Waises-
Barre J('C members was made especially for President
Shazar in honor of Israel's 25th anniversary but was
damaged in the flood when tropical storm Agnes struck
the community. Shazar's sister had lived in Wilkes-
Barre for 30 years, and the Israeli President had visited
there. Shazar was very concerned about the vic-
tims of the flood. Looking on is Mordecai Bar-On, Chair-
man of the youth and hehalutz depatment of the World
Zionist Organization, with which JWB cooperates in a
number of projects related to Israel and world Jewry.
