JERUSALEM (J T A) —
Rumors that Deputy Premier
Yigal Alton had contacts with
Jordanian emissaries in Lon-
don last week spread here
despite a vigorous denial by
the Israeli Embassy in Lon-
don and a disclaimer by Al
Ion's office here.
The rumors stemmed from
the fact that Alton left for
the United States last week

Ile spent four days incog-

cording to the rumors, he
met with representatives of
King Hussein.

writes Moss. "Involved in
jealousy is both envy and

So devastating was the
power of the evil eye, writes
Moss, that it required ra:i-

must be taken with first-born
males and bridegrooms: as
objects of envy they are par-

Dr. Moss said it is impos-
sible to pinpoint origins in
such a study. "Whether Ju-
daic in origin or not, belief
in.the evil eye exists among
contemporary Jews in Italy,
the United States and else-
where." Ritual to counteract
its force include the use of a

NEW YORK iJIM — Six'
hundred elderly Jewish New
York men and women, with
an average annual income •
under $4.000, were scheduled
to leave by air for a two-
week winter vacation in,
Florida sponsored by the,
Associated Camps, a division
of the Associated YM-YWHAs
of Greater New York.
Barnett Lambert. Asso
ciated Camps executive di-
rector, said that the oldest
man in the group is 94 and
the oldest woman 84.
The all-inclusive vacations
range in costs from $250 to
$300, far below the usual
outlay for such a vacation
visit.
Lambert said additional
scholar'ship funds, provided
by Associated Camps and
the Federation of Jewish
Philanthropies tr.ole it pas
sible to increase. the number
of elderly vacationers to 600
from 430 who made the trip
in 191't. Ile said the increas-
ed grants were made "to
give as many oldsters as pos-
sible a chance to participate
in the program.
He said the winter vaca-
tion program for low-income
elderly was a new counter-
part of the Associated
Camps' extensive summer
camping programs, particu-
larly designed for low-income
elderly in the New York
Metropolitan area. The sum-
mer camp programs will be
expanded next summer when
a new area will be opened
on a 500-acre Pocono Moun-
tain site. He said that facili-
ty, to cost nearly $2,000,000,
will be the nation's first sum-
mer camp designed for the
specific needs of the aged.
Lambert noted that the
low-cost trips "provide an in-
creasingly rare opportunity
for senior citizens to enjoy
a short period of warmth,
s a f et y and security" in
Florida. "In a relaxed set-
ting, friendships arc formed
which have increasing im-
portance to the elderly and
these relationships are often
maintained during the winter
hack home."
lie added that while the
vacationers are recruited
from members of Associated
Y centers, as well as from
'Si, other federation agencies,
the winter vacation program
an evil eye should not befall
is nonsectarian in nature.
