LISTENING

POST

A LOT OF FOLKS had an
assignment to keep the night
before Thanksgiving ... that
of not eating too much and
having an expected good ap-
petite ... For over 1,000 who
attended the 18th annual An-
gel Ball by Greater Detroit
Section of National Council
of Jewish Women, at Raleigh
House, it was doubly hard ...
since a complete Chicken
Kiev dinner, including huge
salad and dessert, was served
in tempting fashion at the
given time of 11:30 p.m. . .
Hard to imagine this bit of
logic on the part of the Coun-
cil gals who had a beautiful
affair in all its glamour
slightly tainted by the mid-
night dinner before Thanks-
giving Day . . . Every type
of gown imaginable . . . and
the men were fashion-plated
too . . . Never saw so many
minks lined up in a check-
room—looked like the ware-
house of an exclusive furrier!
. . . The 145-table floral dec-
orations were elegant and in
good taste, a most worth-
while contribution by Tom
Newby and his staff at Reid's
Flowers in Southfield.

WEDDING HELD last
week at clubhouse of White-
hall Apartments, where Mey-
er and Fannie Cooper reside,
was of Jonathan Raphael
Cooper. son of Rabbi Samuel
and Lillian Cooper of Charles-
ton, W. Va., and Larissa
Kruk, daughter of Israel and
Anna Kruk of Haifa . . .
with Rabbi Cooper and Rabbi
Irwin Groner of Shaarey
Zedek officiating . . . Meyer
and Fannie are uncle and
aunt of the groom.

SITED A TEAR for the re-
spected doctor who squan-
dered every cent he owned
gambling and had to rob a

in for purple shirts, yellow
ties and magenta pants . .
He's in a clash by himself.
DENTAL DOC Martin Levy
went to the Detroit Lion-New
York Jet game all set to
raise havoc for his New York
home town team . . . but sat
quietly in his green and
white Jet beanie as the Lions
took away his rooting en-
thusiasm.
"YOU'D BE SURPRISED,"
says Hy Goodman of Ham-
merstein Drugs in Oak Park,
"how many New Year's Eve
resolutions are carried out—
feet first." . . . Hy tells also
of overhearing two young-
sters in his store . . . a small
boy to slightly smaller girl,
"Are you the opposite sex, or
am I?"

NOMINATIONS FOR THE
10 Best Dressed Men Contest
will be accepted through Dec.
31 . . . after which voting
will be held via mail . . .
Send your nominations to us
and please let us know who
you are . . . More nominees
are Jack Ginsburg, David

hank . . . But none of the
tellers could read his hand-
writing on the demand note.
MICHAEL GAINES, who at
25 left Detroit 10 years ago.
to become director of the
Minnesota-Dakotas Anti -Def a-
m lion League, is listed in
two "Who's Who" books ..
"Who's Who in the Midwest"
. . . and "Reference Encyclo-
pedia of the American In-
dian" . . . Mike was on the
Mayor's Commission on Hu-
man Relations and is now a
member of the Minneapolis
Department of Civil Rights
. . . He's the son of Bessie
and the late Harry Gaines
. . . and ready to return to
the home town, with ambi -
tions of going into business
with sister and brother-in-law
Sharon and Bob Stein of
Kaye's Mer.'s Wear in Royal
Oak.
ADVICE FROM a mar-
riage counselor . . . "The
best way to cure your wife's
nagging is by affection, un-
derstanding, tolerance — and
stuffing a pair of old socks
in her mouth."
