Philip Taubman,
Ex-Contractor

Philip Taubman, retired gen-
eral contractor and -a co-
founder of the Taubman Co.,
26250 Northwestern, South -
field, died Sunday in Miami
Beach, where he had made
his home for the past seven
years. Ile was 87.
Mr. Taubman, a native of
Poland, was a former mem-
ber of the Pontiac Real
Estate Board and belonged
to Cong. Adas Shalom and
the Jewish National Fund.
Survivors are his wi fe ,
Sandra; three sons, Sam,
Lester and A. Alfred; a
daughter, Mrs. Albert
(Goldye) Nelson; a brother,
Felix of Paris; a sister , Mrs .
Jack (Pauline) Piuro of
Missouri; 11 grandchildren

and six great-grandchildren.

Rose Pike, a Pioneer
teacher in the United Hebrew
Schools system, who taught
here more than 50 years,
died Tuesday at age 74.
Miss Pike was known to
- innumerable students for her
quiet and gentle manner.
Bernard Isaacs, UHS super-
intendent emeritus, recalls
Miss Pike as a devoted and
excellent instructor, whose
classroom was always a
model of decorum. She and
her sister Leah, who passed
away several years ago,
were teaching colleagues
ever since coming to this
country from Palestine as
young women. They were
educated there, but Isaacs
gave them further teacher
training with American chil-
dren.
Miss Pike was a first cou-

canceled its acceptance of an
invitation to send a delega-
tion to West Berlin. The re-
fusal was prompted by West
German's release of the Mu-
nich terrorists.
The association informed
the German embassy it con-
sidered this an inopportune
time to make the journey.

The Pikes and Allon were
natives of Rosh Pina.
Although the two sisters

remained closely attached to
Israel, they never formally
aligned with any organiza-
tion. They spoke impeccable

Hebrew, and came occasion-
ally to meetings of the
Kvutza Ivrit, the Hebrew
cultural circle.
Miss Pike, who retired
from teaching several years
ago, lived at 757 Covington.
Surviving are a brother, Jo-
seph of Burbank, Calif.;
nieces and nephews. Services
will he held 11:30 a.m. today
at Kaufman Chapel.

Harry Nayer,
A ttorney, 54

Harry M. Nayer, a senior
partner in the law firm of
Travis, Warren, Nayer and
Burgoyne in the Penobscot
Building, died Monday at age
54.
Mr. Nayer, 8750 Hunting-
ton, Huntington Woods, was
a n a t i v e Detroiter and a
graduate of the University of
Michigan's law school in 1942.
Ile was a member of the De-
troit, Michigan and Ameri-
can bar associations, as well
as a former member of the
State Board of Bar Exam-
iners.
Mr. Nayer belonged to Phi
Kappa Phi, Order of the
I COIF, the Presidents Club of
the University of Michigan
and Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
He was a master sergeant in
the army judge advocates of-
fice during World War II.
Active in the Allied Jewish
Campaign, he was formerly
with the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration junior division.
Surviving are his wife,
Corinne; a son, Seymour; a
daughter, Susan; his mother,
Mrs. Samuel Nayer; and a
sister, Mrs. Abraham (Toby)
Satovsky.

Melvin Rosenberg

Melvin I. Rosenberg, presi-
dent of Clean-Rite Vacuum,
Inc., died Nov. 24 at age 42.
Mr. Rosenberg, 25126 Par-
sons, Southfield, was a na-
tive Detroiter. He was a
member of Temple Israel,
Mosaic Lodge of the Masons,
Detroit Consistory and Mos-
lem Temple.
He leaves his wife, Mar-
lene: a son, Dean:4 two
daughters, Renee and Lisa;
his father, Louis; and a
