THE "CHEDER," as our school is affectionately known, has grown from three
children just several years ago, to an enrollment of 40 this year. What is the at-
traction of this program, not only to a variety of Jewish parents but for the children
themselves? In addition to the usual nursery school activities—singing and dancing,
arts and craft, stories, play activities, etc., these children enjoy an active learning
program, conducted in Yiddish! The approach, unique in the entire Midwest, has
the children learning Aleph•Bais at three years of age, reading and writing at four,
and learning Chumash (Bible) as well as davening (Jewish prayerbook) at the age
of five. Thus, when most children are just beginning their formal education, our
youngsters are three years or more ahead. Having moved into new facilities at 28555
Middlebelt Road (between 12 and 13 Mile Roads) in Farmington, we are enthusiastical-
ly looking forward to continued growth in providing a wholesome Torah education
to Detroit area Jewish youngsters. Rabbis Isaac Silver and Yaakov Getz are ad•
nilnistrators.

addresses usually last sev-
eral hours, the Rebbe speaks
extemporaneously, never re-
ferring to notes.
In the course of his admin-
istration the Rebbe has be-
come endeared to countless
thousands of Jews who have
come to know him. From the
profound Torah scholar to
the secularist, from Chief of
State to the man In the
street, to men and women,
young and old, he is the
scholar and spiritual guide,
a source of inspiration, au-
thority and direction, of
warmth and kindness.
In a world rent with ten-
sion and frustration, aimless-
ness and disenchantment, the
Rebbe has made Lubavitch
the anchor, the pillar of light
and hope with which the
swelling ranks of straying
Jewish youth can identify
themselves.
In Lubavitch one can find
many Russian Jews who
have spent as many as fif-
teen years in hard labor
camps simply because they
wanted to live as Jews. They
relate much about the heart-
ache and hardship suffered
in observing — and helping
others observe — the Torah-
true way of life behind the
iron curtain. They will tell
you that it was only the
Rebbe's inspiration that gave
them and their families the
strength to endure. You may
see one of these Russian
Jews dancing with the Torah
while tears of joy streak
down his cheeks. Joy—be-
cause he finally made it to
the Rebbe. Next to him may
stand a young American hip-
pie. Alongside the hippie
stands a University profes-
sor, or an author or a man
of the arts, or someone of
any conceivable profession,
trade or walk of life.
Though seemingly different
in education and background
they are all motivated by
basically the same thing. In
the Rebbe they see the whole
kaleidoscope of Jewish his-
tory, the personification of all
the great Jewish leaders who
led their generations through
history; who represents to
them all that is near and
dear in Jewish life, and who
inspires and guides 'accord-
ing to the spirit of each and
every individual.'
