"Is this trip necessary?
Are the customs and cere-
monies which we now pos-

to resort to such methods to
carry us through the Christ-

Hanuka "comes early" this
year, and its effect may have
worn off by the time Christ-

And throughout the rnishpocha,
Not a word was there said,
Not even a Rrocha.

It's Nice

The children were sleeping,
Dreaming not of the Torah

That surround the mongrel.

The mammas were busy,
You'd sense in the air.
The fragrance of lathes

Group Hopes to Oust 3 NRP Ministers

NEW YORK (JTA)—The
Committee for Jewish Survi-
val claimed that it had ga-
thered 50,000 signatures on
a petition for the ouster of
the three Mizrachi (National
Religious Party) ministers
from the Israeli government.

A recent Beth Achim testimonial dinner honoring
Sidney Silverman and Dr. Manuel Feldman netted
$220,750 in Israel Bond purchases. Shown are (from left)
seated: Silverman, recipient of the Israel 25th Aanni-
versary Award; Abbie Ben Ari, guest speaker; and Feld-
man, the other awardee; and standing: Cantor Simon
Bermanis; Steven I. Victor, president of Beth Achim;
David Silver, dinner co-ordinator; and Rabbi Milton Arm,
who made the tribute to the honorees.

Detroit to Hear Rebbe's Talk

Thousands of Jews through-
out the world will be tuned
in to the public address of
the Lubavitcher Rebb e,
Rabbi Menachem M. Schneer-
son, to be delivered by the
Rebbe at Lubavitch world
headquarters in New York.
The address , will be heard
"live" 9 p.m. Saturday at the
Lubavitcher Center here.
The talk will be heard in
Israel, Australia, England,
France, Italy, West Ger-
many , Canada and several
cities in the United States.

The occasion is Yud.Tes
(19th) Kislfv, the date mark-
ing .the liberation from pris-
on of Rabbi Shneur Zalman
of Liadi, author of Tanya
and Shulchan Arukh.

Rabbi Shneur Zalman was
persecuted and arrested for
his efforts to strengthen the
Hasidic movement and to
disseminate the Hasidic
teachings. To the Hasidim,

Is the observance of Han-

into rhyme and reason in
the synagogue bulletin:
"There is unfortunately,
one aspect of Hanuka that

Children
Will Have to Prove
Jewishness to Wed

Preminger

HAIFA — A rabbinical
court has handed down the
decision that if the too chil-
dren of U. S. film director
Otto Preminger ever want to
have a traditional marriage
here, they first will have to
prove they are Jewish. The
children are an 11-year-old
twin brother and sister.

The Israeli Supreme Court
declared the validity of
Preminger's marriage to a
Gentile after the rabbinical
court had questioned the re-
ligious status of Preminger's
children.
Prernin_:iiir married his as-
sistant, Hope Price, in Israel
torimi the filming of - Exo-
dus " The president of the
1t eirmann Institute, Meyer
Wi•isgal, testified at the
wedding that Miss Price was !
Jewish. Later, however, he
wrote in his memoirs that !
his 4estimony had been false '
lie rcif used to appear before
the rabbinical court on a
summons.

The Orthodox group, bas-
ed in this city, has been con-
ducting a campaign against
the ministers—Yosef Berg,
Zerach Warhaftig and Mi-
chael Hazani—for their fail-
ure to pass an amendment
to the Law of Return which
would stipulate that all con-
versions must be in accord-
ance with Halalcha—religious
law.
The petition calls on the
NRP executive to replace the
ministers "with people who
will adhere to the rulings of
the Rabonim and to demand
the immediate resignation
og their ministers until the

'Who Is a Jew?' law is
amended to read 'giyur ke-
Halakha'," Until then, the
petition says, "Let It be
known that the Mizrachi
ministers do not represent
even one Orthodox Jew."
The committee said the pe-
tition was not aimed at the
Mizrachi movement but only
against the three ministers.
