Water Crossing Capability
Developed by Israel Army
HAIFA—Should the pres-
ent Mid East cease fire be
broken, the Israel army will
be prepared to cross water
obstacles in fighting against
Egypt and Jordan.
This was revealed by Brig.
Gen. Yerachmiel Dori, chief
engineering officer of the
Israel army, in an inter-
view published in the mag-
azine of the Technion-Israel
Institute of Technology.
The cease fire with Egypt,
which has been in force
since August 1970, has en-

to turn its attention to a re-

the main frontiers of post-
Six-Day War Israel are

Prof. Gdalyah Wiseman of the Technion-Israel In-
stitute of Technology, crouches atop one of the giant con-
crete buttresses built by Technion experts when it was
feared the southern wall of the Temple Mount was
weakened by archeological excavations in 1968. The poten-
tial for a religious-political incident embarrassing to
Israel also existed, since a Moslem museum rests upon
the wall above the excavations. Prof. Wiseman inves-
tigated conditions at the site, calculated the safety fac-
tors, recommended that digging not continue at certain
points along the wall and that the wall be braced at
points of weakness. The recommendations were accepted,
and the buttresses were designed and built under the
supervision of Technion Prof. Joseph Edelman.
