AI)L Mission Finds Latin Jews Trying to Adapt to Radical Change,

NEW YORK — Fifty•three
leaders of the Anti-Dela ma•
tion League of Boat Brith,
recently returned from
Smith America, report that
the Jewish communities
there are making major ef•
forts to adapt to revolu-
tionary changes sweeping
the continent which ha VC
S e r i o 11 s implications for
Jews, individually and runt
munally.
The delegation, which in-
cluded community leaders
from all sections of the
United States, spent 15 days
in Brazil. Argentina, Chile
and Peru, meeting 'with top
officials of the various gov-
ernments, including Presi-
dent Salvador Allende of
Chile.
President
Allende
wet-
corned
the delegation, ac-
cording to a spokesman, in
"an extraordinarily cordial
and frank meeting" in which
he denounced racial and re
ligious discrimination, vio-
lence and terrorism — af-
firming in this context the
"intimate and very profound
links" of Chile with those,
who like AM., raise their
voices against the persecu-
tion of people for their ideas
or faith.

Expressing his abhorrence
at the massacre of Israel's
Olympic athletes in Munich,
President Allende recalled
Chile's 1947 vote in the
United Nations to create the
Jewish state and reaffirineJ
his country's traditional
friendship with Israel.

Allende responded to the
Society of Fellows' presenta
lion of a Spanish language
edition of "The History of
the Jews" by Cecil Roth with
the comment that "In •Chile,
' there is no Jewish colony.
There are only Jews with
the same freedoms as all

Widespread Arab propa-
ganda activity and terrorism
is of paramount concern to
Latin American Jews be-
cause both are designed not
only to reduce Latin Ameri-
can diplomatic support for
Israel but also to undermine
the status and security of
Jews in the respective coun-
tries.

Particularly in Argentina,
where the Arab population
outnumbers the Jewish by
100.000, the Arab League has
infiltrated the extreme poli-
tical left and right, employed
anti-Semitism masked as
anti-Zionism, and mounted a
campaign to persuade the
Argentine publid that Jews
plan to establish a second
Jewish state in the country's
southern extremity.

Assembly participants had
to maintain stringent secur-
ity controls throughout the
journey. Their arrival coin-
cides": with the appearance of
unsigned flyers and anony-
mous telephone calls by agi-
tators who threatened to
murder community leaders,
kidnap Jewish children and
launch a pogrom.

The South American Jew-
ish communities have been

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — The
Jordanian regime has given
permission f o r American
tourists in Israel to enter
Jordanian territory, and Is-
raelis holding American
passports are quick to take
advantage of the offer.
Israeli tourists were told to
be on their good behavior, to
forego conversing in liebrew
and above all, not to greet
the Jordanians with the tra-
ditional "shalom."
A small group of Israelis
did converse in Hebrew and
did greet their Jordanian
neighbors with "shalom,"
but no arrests were made.
The Israel press reports
Fiat the trickle of tourists in-
to Jordan is continuing and
averages between 70 and 100
weekly.

Teachers Still
at impasse with
Administration

The impasse in negotiations
between teachers' unions and
the administrations of the
United Hebrew Schools and
the Dual David School re-
mained unresolved as
of
Thursday morning.
Judge Robert Templin had
continued t h e injunction
asked by the UIIS against
the teacher's deadline for a
strike to Thursday.
Should the judge's ruling
be that there is no contract,
the school's administration
was upheld by an over-
whelming decision of the
board of Tuesday that both
parties go back to the nego-
tiating table. If there is a
contract, it was indicated
that a grievance committee
is in existence to deal with
conflicting problems.
Teachers ol Boat David re-
mained on strike as of the
time this issue went to press.
