Convert to Judaism
Wins Hiring Suit

SAN FRANCISCO (JTA)
—The California Fair Em-
ployment Practices Commis.
sion has ordered a Half Moon
Bay school district to pay
$3,200 in lost wages to a San
Francisco teacher after the
district refused to hire her
when the district officials
learned she was converting
from Mormon religion to Ju-
daism.
According to the San Fran-
cisco Jewish Bulletin, the
head of the high school's
physical education depart-
ment told the teacher, Kandis
Benson, she was "one of the
better applicants interview-
ed" but she was notified four
days after the interview that
the job opening had been
filled.

. The FEPC reported it had
nvestigated Miss Benson's
complaint and found she was
better qualified than the ap-
plicant who had been hired.
