firms the recent trend away
from their traditional pref-
erence for literature, history
and law in favor of the na-

the bulk of them at Haifa
University which has an en-

NEW YORK — A major
year-long study of Jewish
communal priorities has been
launched by the Synagogue
Council of America, the na-
tional roof organization for
the three branches of Amer-
ican Judaism.
The announcement of the
study, which is to be carried
on jointly with the North
American Jewish Students'
Network, coordinating body
for Jewish university student
organizations. Was made by
Rabbi Irving Lehrman of
Miami, president of the comi-
c'', at the organization's
annual dinner at the Ameri-
cana Hotel here.
The dinner honored Jack

chairman of the national ad-
visory committee of the Syn-
agogue Council of America,
with the council's "Syna-
gogue Statesman Award."
Rabbi Lehrman explained
that it is the purpose of the
new study to examine how
funds are allocated within
the Jewish community for do-
rnestk programs and whether
they serve Jewish purposes.

gest how these funds can be

NEWARK—The president
of Princeton University has
assured the American Jewish
Congress that unlike the cur-
rent admissions form, next
year's application will not
ask parents' countries of
birth.
Rabbi Israel S. Dresner of
Wayne. president of the Con-
gress' New Jersey Region,
wrote to President William
G. Bowen to protest the
ethnic inquiry.
In a response, Dr. Bowen
said steps had been taken
"to make sure that the ques-
tions related to national ori-
gin are not included next
year."

new persecution, the Israeli
government has appealed to

the Jewish community in
Iraq.
Foreign Minister Abba
Eban reported at Sunday's
cabinet meeting that the sit-
uation of Iraqi Jews has
taken a turn for the worse
recently, although only a few
months ago it seemed to be
improving.
Eban referred to recent
news that a Jew was found
murdered in his Baghdad
home and that eight other
Iraqi Jews were taken from
their homes recently.
There is no information as
to their fate. Eban said he
intended to make. a state-
ment on Iraqi Je s in the
Knesset.
