A project of securing 500
scholarships for the Technion
to allow gifted, needy Israeli
students the opportunity to
continue and (ureter their
education has been adopted
by the Technion board of
directors, These scholarships
will he known as the "Ben-
jamin Wilk Scholarship
Fund."
A $1,000 scholarship makes
it possible for Technion to
accept an additional student
over and above the normal
quota and provide one year's
tuition. A $250 scholarship
will cover one year's tuition
for an undergraduate stu-

dent.

Chair in Psychiatry

Set Up at Technion

NEW YORK — The Prof.
Andre B. Ballard Chair in
Psychiatry will be establish-
ed at the medical school of
the Technion, through a gift
of the Sanford C. Bernstein
and Co. Foundation, Inc.
This announcement was
made at the Technion-Israel
Institute of Technology by
Charles I. Scher, executive
vice president of the Ameri-
can Technion Society.
The Ballard Chair will be
the first established aca-
demic chair in psychiatry at,
an Israeli university.
Dr. Ballard's professional
background has emphasized
work in the fields of psychol-
ogy of the aged, family diag-
nosis and therapy, and cur-
rently, the psychodynamics
of business, involving execu-
tive interaction in a single
firm. He is planning to in-
corporate his latest research
experience into a forthcom-
ing book.

Harvey Prizes Go to 2

JERUSALEM (JTA)—Twc
American scientists were
awarded the first $35.000
Harvey Prizes by the Haifa
Technion at ceremonies Sun-
day at the home of President
Zalman Shazar.
The recipients were Prof.
William J. Kolff, 60. of the
University of Utah, and Prof.
Claude E. Shannon, 56, of the
Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. Prof. Kolff was
cited for inventing an arti-
ficial kidney machine and
Prof. Shannon for his mathe-
matical theory of communi-
cations.
The Harvey prizes carry an
additional $15,000 towards a
month's stay in Israel by the
winners and their families.
The awards ceremonies
were attended by Premier
Golda Meir and members of
her cabinet.

been made for DETROIT
RACE COURSE'S "short"
mid-autumn meeting which
begins Tuesday and runs
through Dec. 2. DRC will
move its daily post time up
one hour to 2:30 P.m- for
these final five weeks of the
1972 season. To conserve
horses and still give fans
nine races on weekdays and
10 on Saturdays, DRC will
be closed on the five Mondays

of this final meeting. The
first such "dark" Monday is
Oct. 30. Detroit Race Course
will be closed on Thanksgiv-
ing Day.
