hold its third annual confer-
ence in Detroit Oct. 20-22 at
the Sheraton-Cadillac Hotel.
Norman II. Hahn of Omaha
is chairman of the Midwest
region, including Chicago,
Detroit, Indianapolis, Kan-
sas City, Milwaukee-St. Paul,
Omaha and St. Louis.
Detroiters on the regional
advisory council are Robert
Alpern, N. Brewster Broder,
Dr. Joseph Fauman, Abba
Friedman, Lewis S. Gross-
m a n, Mildred Grossman,
Miles Jaffe, president of the

James Wineman Greeted on 60th
Birthday; Scion of Noted Family

In the Michigan Jewish
community, t h e Wineman
name ranks among the most
distinguished personalities
who dedicated themselves to
service to the people of this
state and to their Jewish
compatriots.
Henry Wineman was
among Detroit's most dis-
tinguished leaders—as presi-
dent of the Jewish Welfare
Federation, as head of
fund-raising campaigns in
the early years of the Allied
Jewish Campaigns and as
one who had set high records
in giving and notable stand-
ards in pursuing social ser-
vice programs.
His widow, Gertrude Wine-
man, is to this day a pillar
in the community. At 83, she
attends all Federation and
campaign functions and 'en-

James Wineman who
born in Detroit, Oct. 9, 1912,
was graduated in June 1930,
from Highland Park High
School and received his BA
degree from the University
of Michigan in June 1934.

National Bank of Detroit.
He is associated with num-
erous Jewish causes and his
chief Jewish interests are
the Allied Jewish Campaigns
and the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration. He also concerns
himself deeply with the
United Jewish Charities, of
which he is a director. As
vice president and a member
of the executive committee of
United Foundation, he con-
tinues the family affiliation
with the overall community
philanthropic movement.
Wineman's numerous other
associations include: Form-

Assn.; vice president, Detroit
Civic Center Commission;
former president, now direc-
tor, Central Business District
Assn.; former president, now
