Dayan Tells UJA Leaders He Sees No War in Immediate Future

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Two
leading cabinet ministers ex-
pressed the belief that there
will be no new war in the !
Middle East in the immedi-
ate future.
ate
Defense Minister Moshe
Dayan told 300 members of
the United Jewish Appeal
Study Mission, led by De-
troiter Paul Zuckerman, "I
think the Arabs will not re-
new total war against us."
Yigal Alton, deputy prime
minister and minister of edu-
cation and culture, address-
ing a Labor Party rally in
Natanya, said that Egypt
would not start a war against
Israel because it knew such
an adventure would end in
defeat. The Egyptians in-
stead are concentrating on
trying to bring international
pressure to bear on Israel to
make concessions, he said.

not likely to protect the skies

over Syria in the event of
war with Israel to the extent
that they set up air defense
over Egypt.
Dayan said Israel was not
indifferent to "peace" signals
from Jordan, but warned that
there was a large gap be-
tween the positions of both
countries.

The Michigan Association

will hold its College Week-
end Retreat at Camp Tama-

Yehuda Dominitz, deputy
director of the Jewish Agency
immigration department, said
the influx of Soviet Jews will
bring emigration this year to
a total of 55,000, the highest
number since 1963.
Some 55.000 Russian Jews
are expected, and absorption
costs of each family will
amount to about $35,000, said
Jewish Agency Treasurer
Leon Dultzin.

2,500 are expected this year.
Immigration from Asia and
Africa has reached a new low
— 7.000 last year and a
probably 6,000 this year, he
said. But 5,000 Jews are ex-
pected from South America
this year compared to 4,500
last year.

Dominitz reported that im-
migration from North Amer-

Dayan, replying to ques-
tions from the visiting UJA
leaders at a recention in the
garden of his home here,
stated: "I believe the Rus-
sians did not withdraw from
this area completely, but they
learned a lesson and drew
the conclusion that it was not
worthwhile to enter into ac-
tive war with Israel. Under
those circumstances, I think
the Arabs will not renew
total war against us."
Dayan discussed the Rus-
