Hamtramck Bank Buys Bonds
Morris Fenkell, chairman, and Gerald M. Salkowski,
president, representing Liberty State Bank & Trust,
presented a check for $50,000 for the purchase of Israel
Bonds to David Pollack, Detroit Israel Bond general
chairman. The purchase was made in conjunction with
the 25th anniversary of the State of Israel and Liberty
State Bank & Trust's 54th anniversary of continuous
service. Fenkell, speaking for Liberty State Bank & Trust,
stated that, "This is a symbolic act in memory of the
eleven Israeli Olympic victims and hopefully this Bond
purchase will add impetus to the creation of a quick and
lasting peace in the Middleast and an end to terrorism."
The Bond purchase was made Oct. 4 at the bank's newly
opened West Bloomfield office, 6695 Orchard Lake Road

anesthesiology, Dr. Alpert is
vice president of George
Washington University,
Washington, D.C., and pro-
fessor of anesthesiology at its
school of medicine. He is the
president of the Maryland-
District of Columbia Anes-
thesiology Society, chairman
of the interdisciplinary com-
mittee on drug abuse of the
Medical Society of the Dis-
trict of Columbia and a mem-
ber of the society's board of
credentials.

Dr. Alpert is on the nation-

tions and Welfare Funds and
vice chairman of its cam-

Jewish Book Fair Enlists 15 Authors as Speakers
Mrs. Gerald Bloom, gen-
eral chairman of the 21st
annual Jewish Book Fair an-
nounces that the programs
Nov. 11-19, at the Jewish
Center on Meyers will fea-
ture 15 author-speakers, a
Yiddish concert, children's
programs and a display for
sale of 10,000 books of Jew-
ish interest.
This year's fair will cen-
ter around the theme of
International Book Year,
"Books Bring People To-
gether," and Israel's 25th
anniversary.
On opening night, Nov. 11,
Robert St. John, whose lat-
est book is "Eban," will be
the guest speaker on the
topic "Men Who Have Shaped
the Middle East." There also
will be a sneak preview at 7
p.m. of a musical production
written for the book fair.
For the first time, the
Michigan Association of Jew-
ish College Students, Sambat-
yon, and the Wayne State
Billet Foundation will par-
ticipate in the book fair by
sponsoring a morning and
afternoon speaker. On Nov.
12 at 10:30 a.m., St. John
will speak, and at 2:30 p.m.
Norman Kotker, author of
"The Earthly Jerusalem"
and "Herzl the King," will
speak on "Do the Jews Have
a Future in America?"
Meyer Levin, author of
"No Settlers" and recipient
of many literary awards,
will speak Nov. 12. lie is
being hosted by the Ameri-
can Jewish Committee,
American Jewish Congress
a n d the Anti-Defamation
League.
On Nov. 13, sisterhoods
in this area will co-sponsor
an all day session. Bonnie
Trust Dahan, author of "My
Home Is Someplace Far

Jacobs, author of "Ten For
Kaddish," will be the speak-
ers.
On Nov. 13 at 8:30 p.m.

hold an Azkarah, a memorial
service for Russian authors
murdered in Stalin's time,
