WASHINGTON (JTA) —
The Senate has again post-
poned indefinitely a vote on
ratification of the genocide
convention which has been
pending ever since the Unit-

aftermath of the Holocaust

The • convention was ap-
proved by the Foreign Rela-

NEW YORK — A $25,000,-
000 mortgage fund for the fi-
nancing of 5,000 housing units
for young Israeli couples will
he established by Histadrut,
the Israel labor federation.
According to a report by
Ilistadrut Treasurer Yehos-
hua Levy, at a meeting of
the board of directors of the
Israel Histadrut Foundation
here last week, Histadrut's
housing authority, Shikun
Ovdim, will build the 5,000
low cost apartments.
Levy stated that the acute
housing shortage in Israel
hits young marrieds especial-
ly hard, as it is difficult for
them to obtain mortgage
money at reasonable rates.
Most young families consist
of army veterans and come
from the Oriental, low-in-
come communities.
Dr. Sol Stein, president of
the American-based founda-
tion, proposed participation
in this venture by American
donors, who would be asked
to raise $5,000,000 in 1,003
units of $5,000 each through
Histadrut Charitable Annuity
Trusts.
In return, the donors would
receive 8.5 per cent annual-
ly on the contribution for
life. Upon death of the don-
or, the capital gift would re-
vert to the Israel Histadrut
Foundation for its health, ed-
ucational and social welfare
programs in Israel.
