Pincus explained that the
"basic technique of the

lyze the psychology of Am-

it was addressed to the sub-
ject' of immigration to Israel.
In the process, he studied
the aliya deprftrtment's poli-
cies and procedures in the
United States, and the re-
actions of newcomers from
America to Israel."

Israel's Population
Up 50 Pct. in Decade
JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
An official census completed
in May 1971, reveals that
Israel's population increased
by 50 per cent in the decade
1961-1971.
The 1971 count was 3,124,-
000, corn-pared with the 1961
census of 2,179,000. The
added population reflects in-
clusion of the residents of
the Old City of Jerusalem
and the new aliya.
The census also confirms
there has been little if any
change in family size of the
Jewish and non-Jewish sec-
tors. For the Jewish portion,
the count is a little over
seven persons for every two
families. In the non-Jewish
sector, there are approxi-
mately 13 individuals per
two-family count.
Ashdod, Israel's newest
port city, multiplied its pop-
ulation nine times — from
4,600 residents in 1961 to
40,500 in 1972. The Negev
town of Dimona, which had
a population of 5,000 in 1961
has now grown to 23,000.
The total population in
Jerusalem stands at 304,500,
a close second to Tel Aviv-
Jaffa, which now has 362,200
residents.
