German Jewish Tourist Jailed
in Israel for Cruelties in WW II

TEL AVIV (JTA)—A 50-
year-old Jewish woman from
West Germany was sen-
tenced last week by a district
court 4t0Pe-, to three, months'
imprisonment after being
convicted of having mis-
treated other women in a
Nazi labor camp during
World War II.
Duba Gritzmacher was
identified by two sisters, who
had been inmates of the
Landsberg camp, as the
woman named by the Nazis
to supervise other women in-
mates.
The sisters and other for-
mer inmates of the camp
testified during the trial that
Mrs. Gritzmacher had per-
petrated a number of cruel-
ties. Other witnesses, how-
ever, testified that she be-
haved favorably.
The court said it took into
consideration the positive
testimony in imposing the
light sentence. The defend-
ant's attorney was given per-
mission to appeal.
Meanwhile in New York,
Dr. D an ut a Czaykowska-
Medryk, 51, a Warsaw den-
tist who was an inmate in
the Maidanek death camp in
Nazi-occupied Poland, testi-
fied at a deportation hearing
for Mrs. Russell Ryan of
Queens that she saw her help

chambers.
She testified also that in
the same month she saw Mrs.

"The moment I walked in,
I recognized her."
Mrs. Ryan testified that
she had known nothing about
the events in the death camp.

of undesirable character.
