MARK SLAVIN

Flint has been picked as
one of 10 communities in the
United States and Canada to
start a Bnai Brith youth or-
ganization and name it for
one of the Israeli athletes
killed in Munich.
The Flint organization will
be named for Mark Slavin,
18-year-old wrestler who set-
tled in Israel three months
ago after emigrating from
the Soviet Union.
Other groups will be chart-
ered in Shaker Heights, O.;
Atlanta; Potomac, Md.;
Philadelphia; Los Angeles;
Youngstown, 0.; Long Is-
land, N.Y., and two in Mon-
treal.

Comings ...
and
... Goings

Michael Pelavin, Dr. Leon
Rosky and Hy Bergman at-
tended the recent Council of
Jewish Federation and Wel-
fare Funds board and com-
mittee meetings in New
York.
They focused on concerns
currently before organized
North American Jewish com-
munities, ranging from re-
habilitation efforts in behalf
of the Jewish community of
Wilkes-Barre to the latest re-
strictive "head" tax placed
on Soviet Jews seeking to
emigrate to Israel, as well
as the social and human
needs of Israel's new immi-
grants.
More than 200 communal
leaders and Federation exec-
utives from the United States
and Canada attended.

Among the highlights of
the sessions were reports of
the recently concluded meet-
ing in Jerusalem of the board
of governors of the Jewish
Agency which Issued a
"statement of needs" for
1973 totaling 3785,000,000 to
provide for Israel's immi-
gration, absorption, housing
and other urgent needs.

To meet the needs locally, •
nationally, overseas and in
Israel, welfare fund presi-
dents, campaign chairmen
and executives will seek
means of translating fiscal
projections into actual
achievements.
Special attention to financ-
ing higher education in Is-
rael will follow up on the
CJF's resolution calling for
clearer definition of priorities
within that field.
The social planning com-
mittee will explore new de-
velopments in "outreach"
programs to make them
available to all segments of
the Jewish community; and
many other committees will
meet and make recommen-
dations to be presented to the
board of directors for ap-
proval.
