The rate reaches 30-50 per
cent after the third month
and some classes cease to
exist altogether. Absorption
ministry officials arc consid-
ering shortening the courses
from five to three months
and placing greater em-
phasis on external language
courses organized by fac-

more than 26,500 people are

are in the midst of

the holiday season which
means that some extra ef-
forts in the kitchen are ex-
pected and appreciated. I am
sure you want your house
to have a special festive at-
mosphere. This is achieved,
in part, by the dishes you
prepare and by the aromas
that fill-the house. The holi-
day dishes have some nos-
talgic flavor. They are the
ones remembered from moth-
er's or grandmother's kitchen
or other traditional favorites.
The recipe here is for an
"old-world" specialty of buck-
wheat groats, and served as
a side dish. The groats are
garnished with bow-shaped
noodles.

For six:

2 tbIs oil
cup buckwheat groats

1 tsp. salt
Pi cape water
1 cup bow-shaped noodles

2 tbls. checken fat
1 large onion, chopped
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
Dash pepper

1. Boil noodles in a big pot
of boiling water for 10 minutes,
just until tender. Drain.
2. Heat the oil in a large skil-
let over low heat. Add grouts
and cook until brown, stirring
occasionally. Add the salt and
water. Cover and leave over low
heat about 10 minutes until
all the water is absorbed.
3. In the meantime, in another
skillet, brown lightly the onion.
Add the mushrooms and cook
five minutes. Sprinkle a dash

dies, onion and mushrooms in
a 4-cup casserole. Bake at
350 deg. for 25 minutes. Serve
hot.

Knesset Is Visited
by Jordan Officials

—
JERUSALEM (ZINS)
Two former ministers of
King Hussein's government,
who are currently members
of the Jordan Parliament,
were guests of Israeli Dep-
uty Health Minister Abdel
Aziz Zuabi, touring the Knes-
set in Jerusalem.
T h e Jordanian deputies
were on a summer visit in
Israel. According to Cairo's
Al Ahram the visits of the
150,000 Arab guests to Is-
rael this summer comprises
"a systematic erosion of
Arab repulsion toward Israel
— far more effective weapon
than planes, tanks and can-
nons."

Retirement Center
Planned in Israel

JERUSALEM — A plan

whereby 300 elderly Ameri-
cans may live in comfort
and dignity in Israel at a
modest cost has been an-
nounced by Zeev Winer, di-
rector of Mishan, the social
welfare arm of Histadrut,
the Israel labor federation.
A pioneer in the establish-
ment of residential commu-
nities for retired Israeli
workers, Mishan will build
300 additional units at its
Kiryat Segal estate on the
outskirts of Tel Aviv. The
down payment for a room-
and-a-half unit for a couple
will be $.5,000, and for a
single person, $4,000, Winer
stated. Each unit will have
a kitchenette and bath, de-
signed for the comfort and
safety of older people. The
project will consist of six-
story buildings, with eight
apartments on a floor.
