MONTEVIDEO (ZINS) —
The General Zionists of Uru -
guay achieved an unprece-
victory in local
dented
elections to the Jewish Corn-
munity Council.
Its list, headed by Dov
Olesker, won seven seats, a
gain of five. The labor groups
(Avoda) lost two of their
seats, and dropped to third
position, after Herut and the
General Zionists.
Herut received the largest
total of votes, increasing its
seats on the Council from six
to seven.

The General Zionists' ac-
complishment is a direct re-
suit of its initiative which
reached its peak with the re-
cent visit of KM Sinicha Er-
Lich.
A significant factor in the
elections was the role played
by Leon Dultzin, treasurer of
the Jewish Agency and pres-
ident of the World Union of
General Zionists, who dur-
ing his recent visit to Uru-
guay, helped to save the local
Jewish school system from
bankruptcy.

Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Zubin Mehta, is shown here at its
festival in Caesaria, on Israel's Mediterranean coast, with the Roman ruins as a back-
ground. The orchestra, directed by Mehta, will appear here under auspices of the
Zionist Organization of Detroit at the Masonic Temple,,, Oct. 7.
Dr. Jack Greenberg, ZOD president, and Dr. Joel Hamburger, chairman of
the concert committee, emphasized this week, in their announcement that the concert
tickets have gone on sale at popular prices, that the Zionist Organization has arranged
for the concert as a public service and not as a fund-raisin gevent. The fund-raising
function is limited by ZOD to the Balfour Concert on Nov. 19.
Two noted soloists will appear with the Israel Philharmonic in Detroit—Haim
Taub, violinist, and Daniel Reny—mini, leader of the orchestra's viola section.
Tickets are obtainable at the ZOD office in Southfield, at the Masonic Temple,
Hudson's and Grhin'el's.
