The main contributors to the new $3,000,000 facility, the pharmacy school's first permanent home since its es- tablishment 19 years ago, are Jewish pharmacists in the United States, who do- nated some 85 per cent of the funds raised abroad. Adolph Weinberger, 81, re- tired industrial pharmacist of Cleveland, for whom the building is named, was rep- resented by his son, Jerome Weinberger, chairman of Gray Drug Stores, Inc., one of America's largest phar- macy chains. Two congresses coincided with the inauguration of the Weinberger Building — the 18th International Congress of Pharmaceutical Students which opened in Jerusalem last week with more than 100 delegates from 19 countries, and the Second Congress of the World Alliance for Israel Pharmacy, attended by near- ly 1,000 pharmacists from 24 countries. The school has some 200 undergraduate students as well as 30 graduate students, including several working towards a PhD. In 1970 a dozen Arab stu- dents were enrolled, last year the figure had risen to 15, and some 20 are expected to enroll for the new academ- ic year. There are 12 newly- arrived Russian immigrants and another 12 are expected for the fall trimester. On the lower level of the new structure is a radioiso- tope laboratory which will be operated jointly with the Israel Atomic Energy Com- mission to train hospital, pharmacy and medical per- sonnel in use of radioactive materials. Pharmacists are urgently needed in Israel, as the av- erage age of the country's 1,800 practicing phamacists is between 50 and 60. The pharmaceutical industry also needs . more professionals to meet 'an increasing demand for pharmaceutical products abroad. Worship Order Broken at Hebron JERUSALEM (JTA) — Tension simmered in Hebron after Jewish settlers and has- idim from Jerusalem violat- ed a five-year-old order by the defense ministry prohib- iting Jews from worshiping at the Tomb of the Patri- archs during hours designat- ed for worship by the Mos- lem community. The tomb is sacred to both faiths. Sheikh Mohammed All Ja- abari, Mayor of Hebron, said the violation amounted to a 'iberate provocation of the ti rb residents. Last Friday a group of ! Orthodox settlers from the new Kiryat Arba quarter vis- ited the Tomb although Fri- day is the Moslem Sabbath. On Saturday some 30 hasi- dim of the Karlyn sect in Jerusalem prayed at the Tomb in an area specifically designated for Moslem wor- shippers. On Saturday night another group from Kiryat Arba came in violation of the reg- ulation barring Jews from prayer there after 5 p.m. In each case police ordered the violators away and they left without incident. A number of developments stemmed from the program. One was formation of family life education programs for parents. Another was devel- opment of advisory councils of students, faculty and com- munity members to combat drug use and gang warfare. Also organized was a drop-in center and workshops on drug education for police and community groups. A com- munity council was created in one area to develop recre- ational programs.
