A Rosh Hashana Message

ti

By ALFRED E. KLEIN
President, Flint Jewish Community Council
Traditionally, the Jewish New Year is a time to reflect
on our past deeds . . . a time to assess our relationships
with our fellow men . . . a time to rededicate ourselves to
the values which have preserved our people throughout
the centuries ... a time to plan for the future with deter-
mination and new hope.
The people of Israel must prepare for the daily arrival
of new immigrants, they must also continue to meet the
economic pressures of sheer survival, and they must
remain prepared to defend their cherished and hard-won
freedom. That, too, is a daily job. And the financial drain
on the people is overwhelming. Too often, limited funds
enable us to help only the neediest of the needy, the sickest
of the sick and the most severely handicapped of the handi-
capped.
I ask now for the reaffirmation of your commitment
for the coming year; for the strengthening of the common
bonds of freedom shared by Jews everywhere; for a magni-
ficent dream of humanity and heroism; a dream we have
been privileged to share. For it is with this common bond
of commitment that we, together, can help shape and share
in our common destiny.
On behalf of the officers and staff of the Flint Jewish
Community Council, I extend to you and your family best
wishes for a healthy and happy New Year.
