Needs of Morocco's Residue of Aged

NEW YORK (JTA (—Torah Ume-

Torah Umesorah, reported 34
schools in nine states availed
themselves of the loans, he said.
Originally, $250,000 in loans were
requested, but due to lack of funds,
Torah Umesorah could only make
5150,000 in loans available, accord-

Worried about the low percent-
age of students from Oriental coun-
tries in Israel's universities, David-
Ben-Gurion, while prime minister
and minister of defense, suggest-
ed that the Technion establish a
special preparatory course for
soldiers from those countries. The
aim of this course was to prepare
the participants for Technion's stiff
entrance examinations, and to en-
, able them. to compete on equal
footing with other high school
graduates.
The success of the course sur-
prised even the optimists. Of the
387 soldiers who have attended the
course since its establishment. 330
have successfully passed the Tech-
nion's entrance examinations. Of
those. 140 have graduated, while
150 are at present studying for
their BSc degrees at the Technion.
The average dropout rate among
the soldiers is as low as 10 per ,-
cent which is considerably less ;
than the general dropout rate at
the Technion.
