—11 . UHS High School Will He Stressing Freedom of Choice in Program The newly appointed principal of the United Hebrew Schools High School, Joshua Chorowsky, announces a number of major changes in the curriculum, addi- tional to those reported in last week's Jewish News. They will take place when school begins in September. The new program is rooted in the thesis that students are more highly motivated and achieve bet- ter results when they have some freedom to select courses and as- sume responsibility for their own progress. Curriculum changes also will re- flect the opinion of faculty and ad- ministration that the acquisition of major concepts and the ability to apply them to new situations is of far greater value than the memorization of masses of unre- lated and isolated bits of factual material. Current high school courses include: "The Prophet and So- cial Justice"; "The Concept of 'The Chosen - People"; "Con- cepts of Judaism"; "The He- brew Law and the Civil Law"; "The People and the Land of Israel"; "Basic Jewish Concepts and Values"; "Introduction to Jewish Thought and Philosophy" and "Introduction to Kabala and Mysticism." Another major innovation is the restructuring of the academic pro- gram and the instituting of a sys- tem of subject area requirements and credit-hour registration simi- lar to programs of public high schools and colleges. A student will be required to complete success- fully a total of 58 hours for grad- uation to be divided among five MICHAEL KAPLIT Photography Weddings • Bar Mitzvas 613-7392 Unique Invitations BARBARA'S STATIONERY Weddings a Bar Mittens 352 - 6655 or 626 - 0747 19025 W. 10 Mole Rd. 6 46.8484 Photography 30790 SOUTHFIELD at 13 Mils Road FACIAL HAIR PERMANENtLY REMOVED Eyebrows—Neckline— Arms— Legs Recommended by Physicians FREE CONSULTATION SHIRLEY PERSIN Registered Electrolognt ADVANCE BUILDING 23077 GREENFIELD Room 260 PHONE 557-1108 t5 /eon Downtown PASSPORT PHOTOS 2.,„$3" Paperlique 28635 Southfield 357-3266 Overnite Service INVITATIONS 20% OFF i I I Joshua Chorowsky has been ap, pcint-ed principal of the high School department and registr,ir of the Midrasha, College of Jewish Studies, it was announced by Dr. Benjamin L.
